Anyone else think rest days are hard in the early portions or a training schedule?

I got on the treadmill this morning and walked a mile because it is my rest day. I will probably get on a couple more times today just to get my steps in. Working from home is not good for my step count. When I have breaks throughout the day from work I hop on the treadmill to get some more steps in.

Today I will work to get in all of my steps before this evening. We have lots of celebrating to do this evening. I am looking forward to celebrating with the ones I love the most.

Your takeaway today should be that even though your training schedule says rest day that doesn’t mean do whatever you want it means take it easy for the day. I still worked out my arms and legs some this morning and did yoga. I got in a slow mile and will get a couple more slow miles later today. Rest days are for being gentle with yourself but also remembering that you are in training.

I am sure as my runs all pick up in length these rest days are going to become precious. Today is my first rest day in this training plan so it is a little harder to deal with. I want to run.

Remember that rest days are an important part of self-care too. You use this time to reflect on what has been working for you or what hasn’t. You can use it to research some new techniques to try. Rest days should still involve movement but in my opinion nothing overly strenuous.

*I am not a doctor. I am sharing only my experiences. You should consult your doctor before starting any training plans.*

Until next time,

Gobfor a run, do something you are passionate about, rest, be kind, be you.
