I have talked previously that April seems to be my struggle month. It has continued to be that for me even after recognizing the difficulties.
Today was the first time in 4 days that I got on the treadmill. Never miss a Monday right? I’m looking at this week as a game changer. I am going to take it slow and celebrate the success of just doing something small.
I walked 2 miles on the treadmill this morning and it felt great. I am working from home so I put my running shoes back on after getting ready for my day so that during lunch I can get back on the treadmill. I am taking small steps to take back control.
Each of us is responsible for our own actions and reactions. I am responsible for my happiness it is no one else’s job. I have to do the things to make me happy. I know I have been in a funk and I have to pull myself out of it. Yes I have people that support me and will help but ultimately the decisions and actions are mine. If I don’t take the small steps then no one can help to pull me along.
Today I am taking that small step just by getting back on the treadmill and putting my shoes on so I can get on again at lunch. It is the small steps we take every day that change our lives. Small steps add up to big steps. I know what needs to be done and I am working towards taking those steps to meet my goals. I will fall along the way but that is where I will learn the most. I believe that in order to learn one must stumble. If it was winning all the time it would not be interesting and would be too easy. Life is hard but just as I tell my 4 year old and my 4th graders, “You can do hard things.” My 4 year old repeats that phrase back to me when she sees me struggling. That is the kind of person we are teaching her to be one. One that lifts people up and encourages them in moments of difficulty.
While I work to overcome my struggles with whatever it is about the month of April I hope that if you are reading this you remind yourself that you can do hard things. It’s just about being a little better than yesterday and taking small steps to improve. Celebrate along the way because the journey is where the experiences and memories are made. Celebrate when you reach your goal too. Celebrate every day because we never know when it will be our last.
Until next time,
Go for a run, do something you are passionate about, do the hard things, be kind, be you.
